Pansy Maurer-Alvarez was born in Puerto Rico, raised in Pennsylvania and has lived in Europe since 1973, in Paris, mainly, in Zurich, sometimes. A teacher and translator, she turned to writing full-time in the 80s, and her work has appeared in France, the United States and the United Kingdom, in such magazines as Kalliope, Hanging Loose, The World and Lungful! (US) and The Times Literary Supplement, Orbis and Leviathan Quarterly (UK). She teaches workshops occasionally and is a contributing editor to the British magazine Tears in the Fence. She has two collections, Dolores: The Alpine Years (1996) and When the Body Says it's Leaving (2004) both from Hanging Loose Press.
